Did you notice an epic pompom in your SQ Mystery Christmas box?? Well my friends, that funky puff of wooly goodness was handmade by my little mate, Alice! A fellow maker and mega animal lover who also lives in Burnett Heads, QLD Australia.
I've had the pleasure of knowing Alice for over three years now, her Dad and my husband are both fire fighters for our local brigade. That's how we first came to know each other, but just like many of you would understand, it has been our love of craft and sewing which really brought us together!
Alice is a pocket rocket of energy and intelligence... at only 10 years of age she is a delight to chat with. As you can imagine, meeting someone so young and eager to learn more about craft and sewing gets me so excited. I adore seeing Alice's face light up when she shares something she's made with me. It's so wonderful to see!
At only 7 years of age, Alice started making pompoms as a hobby, 3 years later and now it's a small business! You only need to check out Alice in Pom Pomland's list of CEO's to understand her love of animals. Molly the Chihuahua, Patch the Papillon and Pog the Beared Dragon. Yes this cool kid has a pet Lizard! Alice is most happy either sewing, making pompoms or hanging out with her animals.
It was a pleasure collaborating with Alice for this years SQ Christmas Mystery Box. I put together a bag of funky coloured wools to coordinate with the featured fabric kit in the box and dropped it off to this little legend to work her magic.
Each pompom unique, different and made with a whole lot of love by Alice. The box Alice filled with her pompoms was a sensory delight when I saw them for the first time. We loved the pops of sparkly yarn.
The beautiful pompoms were then added to a SQ zipper pull ready to coordinate with the coolest pink and white stripe zipper tape, which was also a fun element in the box! It was then featured in the project included in the Mystery Box - Mingoes & Cream. The most quirky and fun scissor case around! Ready to store and carry your precious scissors to a workshop or retreat... or maybe the perfect hiding place.
Alice loved the opportunity to make these for our wonderful customer. She was over the moon knowing some of her pompoms would travel over to the UK and USA! It would be wonderful if you could visit @aliceinpompomland over on Instagram. Give her a follow and some ♥ and lets keep encouraging our young mates to get creative!
Thank you so much for your contribution Alice, we love your work and we can't wait to see you grow and develop your skills! Please tag @aliceinpompomland with any posts you share (I know Alice will LOVE that). Don't forget to post a picture of your Mystery Box to win a SQ $100 voucher!
Have a wonderful week lovelies. Get ready to welcome in the new year! I hope the year ahead is positive with loads of opportunities to smile.
Lots of love,
Mandy and the SQ fam 💛✌️🌼
